Lahaina, Maui:

What a fun, busy day we had today.  We started out this morning having breakfast at the Pioneer Inn, one of our favorite restaurants on Maui.  It has a long history of sailors staying there when Lahaina was a small whaling village.  It was rowdy and loud, however today the town is much more calm and the Inn rents room to tourists.  They have a plain, but delicious, restaurant downstairs (as well as an active bar at night, but not appropriate for this grandma and grandpa).  After breakfast we took a stroll through the town, which is now filled with restaurants, bars, and souvenir shops - lots of tourist shops with items made in Hong Kong, Philippines, etc.

Early this evening we took a 2-hour sunset sail in a 50-foot yacht to have drinks and snacks.  We found quite a few humpback whales and Bob got some great pictures of them breaching.  Hopefully he can post a couple of them.  We were so lucky to see lots of mommy and baby whales.  So sweet to see the babies breaching beside their moms.  Although we've seen them before, I'm always amazed by the beauty, size, and strength of these creatures.  Really fascinating to watch.  Met some lovely who are also on our cruise ship.  After our fun boat ride we returned to the ship and had a huge buffet filled with international foods, including dozens of delicious desserts.  Food from MANY different countries.

We had to take tenders from the ship to the dock in Lahaina.  It's REALLY rocky getting on and off of the tender when it's at the ship.  Luckily, there are four very strong young men to help us :)  Coming back to the ship at night was particularly fun.  Our ship looks BEAUTIFUL with all its lights on setting out in the harbor.  Looking at at Lanai and Molokai as we motor back to the ship.  Such a paradise! Absolutely loving it.

Now, since it's been at least 4 hours since we've eaten, it's time to climb back on the ship and get ready for a gourmet dinner. with waiters who call us by name and wait attentively for any request we might have!!!
